Owner, Founder, CEO: Amber Nelms, BCBA

Amber Nelms is a board-certified behavioral analyst, who has synthesized her educational foundation in behavioral science with in-field experience and personal insight. As a mother of a child with autism, Amber knows what it is like to be on both sides of the equation when teaching and learning how to parent an individual diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

BCBAs

Max Baenen, MA, BCBA: Clinical Director

Max is a BCBA. He has been in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis for 7 years.

He started out working in an academic setting as a teacher for high schoolers on the Autism Spectrum. From there he began to work 1:1 with young adults working on functional life skills and vocational goals. He also has experience working as a clinical supervisor for clients diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Emotional Disturbances. More recently, he has worked closely with families in a home setting to train caregivers and develop programs that can be applied naturalistically in a home setting.

Max received his Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis with a focus on Autism from Ball State University. He completed his undergrad in Psychology at The Ohio State University.

Max has been working with children his entire adult life. His inspiration for pursuing a career helping children stemmed from being an older brother. In high school he interned in an Early Childhood Professions program, since then he has been a teacher at a Montessori school, an after school coordinator, a classroom aide, a teacher for clients with special needs, a classroom coordinator, a clinical supervisor, and a BCBA. Through these experiences, he has developed a skill set that not only focuses on socially significant clinical outcomes, but also developing connections with families and educators alike.

Outside of work, Max enjoys spending time disc golfing. Additionally, he enjoys playing music. He enjoys going on hikes with his wife, Mari, their daughter, and their two dogs- Nikko and Murphy.

As part of the leadership team at Triangle ABA, Max utilizes his talents to focus on program development, team building, and clinical excellence in collaboration with Amber Nelms and the rest of the clinic.

Joshua Ginsburg, BCBA, Technical Advisor

My name is Josh, and I’m excited to be here! I’ve been a BCBA for over 7 years and in the field of Applied Behavioral Analysis for even longer!

Over my time in the field, I’ve worked with clients in a large variety of settings including in both public and private schools, in home, in community, and in clinics. I’ve also worked across age ranges as well, from as young as 2 to as old as 18, and have taught and created programs to teach skills that benefit all types of learners, from those just learning to communicate to those beginning to develop a functional vocabulary to teaching leisure and work skills to engage with as an adult. I’m also experienced in both skill acquisition targets as well as reducing or decreasing maladaptive behaviors. I strive to focus on effective, ethical, and socially relevant programming, and a key focus for me is to ensure that anything we can accomplish at the clinic generalizes to the home and community environment as well.

While I only started at Triangle recently, I’m excited to be here and happy to be part of the team!

Laura Sweeney, BCBA and Group Student Supervisor

My name is Laura Sweeney. I am a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with extensive work experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). I began working with children on the autism spectrum as a teacher assistant in a pre-k autism classroom in Wake County. I continued my desire to work with children with autism by becoming a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). Through my experience as an RBT, I worked with children on the autism spectrum and developmental disabilities in educational, clinical, and home settings. Before joining Triangle ABA, I worked with children of various ages, implementing ABA principles in individual and group settings. Throughout my experience as an RBT, I found my true passion and continued my journey to become credentialed as BCBA.

I currently work with a small caseload of children. I became a BCBA to help children learn to live more fulfilling and independent lives. The field of ABA focuses on individual care; with every child having different skills and interests, I tailor my programming to the child and make sure every child is motivated to learn. By observing each child and assessing

Zachary Morrell, BCBA

Zach is a recent Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), but he has worked in ABA for over ten years.

Zach’s background is in history, where he has both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, but he has always felt most fulfilled helping children develop skills and live their most fulfilled lives.

His ABA experience has primarily been clinically based with children aged up to 16, and he has a wealth of experience working with learners of all skill levels.

In the past two years, Zach has expanded his skillset to include training the fundamentals of ABA to new hires and technician’s skills sharp through ongoing trainings, and he is excited to continue growing as a BCBA while supporting and teaching sound ABA skills to Triangle’s technicians while developing his own program management style as a BCBA.

RBTs & BTs

Brittany, Program Coordinator & Mentor RBT

A 2020 East Carolina University Bachelor’s of Social Work graduate with a focus in child welfare and trauma informed care, Brittany began working as an RBT in January 2021. She has experience in applying behavior analysis to assist in potty training, meal programs, play with peers, and school readiness. She is also skilled in structured learning at tables and incorporates visual schedules as prescribed by your child’s BCBA.

She began her work at Triangle ABA providing in home services and is now primarily clinic based. Your child’s session with her will look and sound like play while she simultaneously contrives learning opportunities to occur. Following your child’s lead, she will tailor her sessions to fit their need and in collaboration with your child’s BCBA, she will implement behavior analytically based goals to assist in developing your child’s skills. Your child’s session will end having been provided the highest level of care she is equipped to provide and this will be reflected in your child’s CentralReach session note.

Brittany was promoted to the role of Mentor RBT in March 2022 where she assisted in the creation and execution of RBT training material. She is overjoyed to continue executing training material in addition to her new role, as of January 2023, as Program Coordinator where she develops lesson plans and facilitates group instruction within the clinic setting. She feels empowered knowing she has the opportunity to grow and learn alongside her clients and colleagues every day. From Raleigh, NC, her favorite music is always changing and she enjoys fostering dogs and puppies in her spare time.

Alexus, Mentor RBT & Materials Specialist

My name is Alexus Fair and I began my journey as an Registered Behavior Technician in 2020 at Damar ABA Services in Indianapolis, Indiana. I had the pleasure of attending the University of South Carolina Upstate and graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Experimental Psychology with a minor in Child Advocacy in 2017.

While looking for a change in career paths, I was introduced to numerous technicians that explained the importance of this field and how there is always a need for patient, caring and dedicated individuals to work with children with autism and I was instantly invested. After relocating to the North Carolina area, I wanted to continue the work I started in Indiana by contributing to the Triangle ABA company with dedication, advancing ideas and a positive attitude.

I’ve worked with clients aging from 2-14 during my time so far as an RBT, some fully verbal to completely nonverbal. When completing a session with my clients, I focus on creating a safe and open environment that is tailored to each individual to assist in allowing them to learn the best they can. I ensure that I make learning with me as fun as possible through taking the time to assess what engages my client the most and incorporating it into teaching. Though each client is unique, I am consistent in my approach on how I implement their specific treatment plans with enthusiasm throughout their learning process. I work hard to present a tone, demeanor and speech that aligns with how my clients best learn in each session. Working with children with autism can be challenging but overall rewarding when you see the outcomes of a nonverbal client showing signs of evolving communication or simply being able to accept ‘not right now’, without any behaviors occurring.

Though I’ve only been an RBT for 2 years, I have been able to teach a diverse group of children and learn many different approaches to achieve the best outcomes for each client. I am excited to continue my journey of growth and service here at Triangle ABA and I look forward to the success stories to come.

Cameron, Director of Operations

A 2021 Appalachian State University Bachelor of Psychology graduate with a concentration in health studies, Cameron began working as RBT for Triangle ABA in August of 2021. After several months of experience, he now is well versed in applying behavior analysis to assist in challenging behaviors, learner readiness, verbal operants, and functions of behavior. As of January 2023, Cameron is Triangle ABA's Clinical Operations Manager.

Cameron has worked with a range of ages from preschool to pre-teen. Your child's session with Cameron will look playful and energetic while simultaneously contriving motivation from the environment to provide learning opportunities for your child. His goal during sessions is to allow your child free access to the environment while engaging with your child in a way that is preferred and reinforcing; he works to gather important motivations as to what makes your learner smile and laugh, as well as gleaning what he, as the RBT, can add to the environment that would positively affect your child. Cameron likes to incorporate parallel play into his sessions with clients by finding what your child loves to do/play, and playing cooperatively with them. In cooperation with your child's BCBA, he will implement behavior analytically based goals in order to further develop your child's skills.

Cameron loves being an RBT because of the impact he has seen he can have on the children he has gotten the opportunity to work with. Cameron has plans to pursue a Masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis with the hopes to become a BCBA. Cameron is determined to make a positive change in this world and believes that serving children with developmental delays and their families is not only the most rewarding thing he has done in his life, but the most important thing he has done. Cameron is a Tier 5 certified trainer through the Marcus Crisis Prevention Program. MCPP is a program through the Marcus Autism Center that specializes in managing, preventing, and de-escalating crisis situations involving or brought about by children and adolescents. Cameron is certified in de-escalation strategies as well as physical procedures to keep both the client and the technician safe during aggressive or other challenging behaviors. Cameron was trained and certified as a user in July 2022 and certified as a trainer in November 2022. Cameron played Division I baseball at Appalachian State University in his time as a student there. Cameron spends his free time coaching high school baseball in Cary.

Andrew, RBT & Facility Supervisor

Andrew began working at Triangle ABA in February of 2022. Before working at Triangle ABA he was a Chef at Cowfish in North Hills. He’s been a rock climbing instructor, a wilderness guide, an adventure photographer, volunteered for medical aid in the amazon rainforest, and was medically discharged from the Airforce back in 2017. Through all he has done there has never been a more fulfilling field than ABA. He is currently a registered behavioral technician that’s enjoying making a difference in children’s lives everyday.

He currently volunteers with families who have children on the Autism spectrum. He also had the pleasure of growing up with a cousin who has autism and got to witness first hand the difference good therapy can make. He remembers the day that his cousin talked to him for the first time and even the first time they were able to throw a ball together. These children here at Triangle ABA are something truly amazing and he looks forward to learning whatever he can to help others see them grow as he has. His current hobbies are singing, learning piano, and jumping rope when he has the time. A special fun fact about him is that during his younger years his family had over 21 dogs, and he can still remember most of their names.

Brandi, Mentor RBT - Quality Assurance

Brandi Wright is from the historical Greensboro, NC. She is a Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) with a B.S. in Psychology and currently in school again pursuing her master’s in clinical psychology. She has been an RBT for about 2 years now under Triangle ABA and has since been promoted to Mentor RBT and specializes in Quality Assurance where she oversees the quality of session notes submitted to insurances.

On a daily basis Brandi works with school age children. She typically starts her sessions off providing her clients with various toys where she also pairs herself with the items her client may show interest in. Once her client seems to be comfortable and settled in, Brandi starts involving teaching skills or targets that are within their program formed by the BCBA. A good example of this would be if the client’s target was to receptively identify and/or go to a specific peer or RBT- while playing with play-doh, Brandi would get her clients attention and request for the client to take play-doh to the stated peer/RBT. Doing a target in this way brings about generalization and helps the client to learn and communicate in a playful environment. This can also occur in a structured classroom setting where the client will be taken out of the playful environment to go over more structured learning targets. Brandi’s hope is that the playful environment becomes the client’s highest reinforcement which keeps the client invested in learning.

In working hand and hand with her client’s BCBA, Brandi has found herself to be able to problem solve, execute programs to encourage client interaction, as well as implement de-escalation strategies. Brandi is also experienced in toileting/feeding programs, structured learning at tables, crisis prevention, and has provided in-home services.

After witnessing the power of such programs discussed, Brandi is even more invested in her job each day and enjoys seeing a smile on her clients faces. Brandi makes sure her clients have fun while also learning in every session. A quick fun fact about Brandi is that she loves dogs and loves to travel!

Joyella, Mentor RBT & Event Coordinator

Joyella has been a Registered Behavior Technician at Triangle ABA since late August 2021. She went to North Carolina State University for Psychology and prior to coming to Triangle ABA, she worked at the YMCA where she found her love for working with kids and having an impact on their lives. Joyella came into Triangle ABA without any experience or prior knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis but working at the clinic she has grown a lot in this field and she is always learning new skills every day!

In her session, Joyella is very active! She works with two very high-energy clients and always strives to match their energy. She begins her session by allowing her clients to have free access to their environment and will engage in what her clients are interested in to build their RBT and client bond. Joyella has been working with both clients for a couple of months now and she finds so much joy in helping them learn new skills and watching them grow!

When it comes to hobbies, Joyella enjoys switching things up all the time because she believes that everyone should get a little taste of everything. One thing that will never change for her is her love for playing games with a group of people!

Destiny, Billing Manager & Executive Assistant

Destiny was born in Lewes, Delaware but has spent most of her life here in Raleigh, North Carolina. She graduated from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in December 2020 with dual Bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology. Destiny is currently attending

Virginia Commonwealth University Online in hopes of obtaining her Master of Social Work and one day becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Destiny has always been interested in a career in helping others but was unsure of how she could until she was introduced to the world of ABA. Destiny obtained her RBT certification in August 2022.

Destiny hopes to continue down her path to becoming a Social worker to be able to continue to make that impact on others’ lives. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and doing anything outdoors.

Merissa, RBT

Hello, my name is Merissa. I am currently an undergraduate student pursuing a B.A. in Psychology. I am also involved in research that supports health equity and intersectional health. After receiving my bachelor’s degree, I intend to further my education and continue contributing to research. I am new to the world of ABA; however, I am thrilled to begin my journey!

For more background information, I have had both professional and personal experiences with neurodivergent individuals. In 2022-2023, I worked as an office student assistant for Student Accessibility Services. The main focus of the office is to accommodate our students' needs. This position gave me the unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of our students, practice advocacy, and validate their feelings or concerns. As an RBT, I will strive to not only continue practicing these core values but to build a connection that focuses on improving strengths and learning new skills.

In my spare time, I enjoy relaxing with a good book, gaming, or exploring the area. I love experimenting with fashion, too. Right now, I am learning how to crochet.

Elizabeth, BT

Hi, my name is Elizabeth! I am originally from Syracuse, but have been living in Raleigh since I was about 8!

I graduated Appalachian State in 2023 with a Bachelor's in Psychology and a concentration in Human Services. I plan to pursue a Master's in Social Work to hopefully work in mental health counseling treating a range of people from kids to college age adults while also continuing to work with individuals with ASD. I am new to ABA but I love working with kids and am very passionate about guiding them through their struggles and development. I have had similar experience working with adults with IDD so I am eager and excited to start in this field and learn more about ABA.

Outside of work I enjoy reading, going to the movies, traveling, and spending time with friends and family!

Cesar, RBT

A Raleigh native, Cesar obtained his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Western Carolina University with a focus on neuropsychology.

Starting with Triangle ABA in September of 2022, Cesar has worked with many Hispanic clients and often uses Spanish in programming with multilingual clients. “My experience in public school without accommodations for Spanish speakers enlightened me on how one’s growth and learning can be realized when language barriers are overcome”

His hobbies include backpacking and craft tea.

Kaitlyn, RBT

My name is Kaitlyn Doyle and I have been in the field of ABA for over 2 years now. I attended Western Michigan University where I received a degree in Behavioral Science and it was here where I found my love and passion for ABA. After this, I applied to become a behavior technician and in August of 2021 I became a Registered Behavior Technician.

Over the years I have worked with kids ranging from 2-18 on toilet training, emotional regulation, social skills, self advocacy skills, and communication. I love to have fun with all my clients and I believe that children learn better in an environment where they don’t even realize they are doing work.

I plan on beginning my graduate program in Applied Behavior Analysis in the fall so I can eventually become a BCBA and continue to provide care for individuals with ASD.

Outside of work I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with my friend.

Ronnie, RBT

Hola! I'm Ronnie Macias Sebastian, and I'm delighted to be part of the Triangle ABA team, supporting your child's growth and development through Applied Behavior Analysis therapy. Originally from Mexico, I've spent the last 23 years embracing the diverse cultures and communities of the United States, with North Carolina becoming my cherished home.

With a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, specializing in Clinical Psychology, and a minor in Biology from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, I bring a unique blend of knowledge and passion to my role as a Behavior Technician. My academic background has equipped me with a deep understanding of human behavior and the intricate mechanisms that underpin it.

Beyond my professional endeavors, I find solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether immersing myself in the world of literature, exploring new destinations through travel, or savoring quality time with loved ones, I believe in the importance of balance and connection outside of work.

As your child's Behavior Technician, I am committed to providing compassionate and effective support tailored to their individual needs. I'm here to collaborate with you, celebrate every milestone, and navigate challenges together as a team. Together, let's embark on this journey towards growth, progress, and empowerment.

Zaria, RBT

I’m Zaria! I’m from Raleigh and am working on getting my bachelor’s degree. I’m new to ABA, but I am passionate about learning!

I’ve always had a passion for neurodivergence, and have had prior volunteer experience working with kids, so this was a great intersection of those interests. I hope to continue my future in the mental health sector.

Aside from those academic interests, I enjoy baking, drawing, D&D, and sewing!

McKayla, RBT

Hello! My name is McKayla, I am originally from Maine and have migrated South to expand my worldview (and to soak in the warm weather!). I am working on my Psychology Bachelors degree and spent 3 years in New Jersey working on that. I left my job in insurance to focus on a job that makes me feel fulfilled by the end of each day, a job that makes a difference in lives. I personally have a younger sibling with Autism, and he is the light of my life, the experience I have with him has guided me to a similar career field.

I spend my free time hiking, camping, and volunteering at my local Therapeutic Horseback Riding Facility. I have been riding horses since I was 8, so watching children with disabilities enjoy what I have my entire life is incredibly heart warming! I also run two book clubs and a local social club that keeps me in touch with my community. I find community ties to be one of the most crucial parts of a healthy social life.

Stephanie, RBT

Hello, my name is Stephanie! I recently moved to Clayton from Charlotte, NC. I have been working in the field of ABA since June of 2021. In December 2022 I graduated from Arizona State University with my Master of Arts in Special Education with a concentration in ABA. I am currently working on accruing my fieldwork hours to pursue becoming a BCBA.

Prior to ABA I was working in Recreational Therapy when I discovered my passion for working with individuals on the autism spectrum. I believe my background has largely impacted my love for NET and incorporating goals into play.

Something that I am particularly passionate about is being an advocate for the neurodivergent community and ensuring that I am implementing neuro-affirming practices. This looks like focusing on a client’s strengths, prioritizing client dignity and encouraging autonomy. I love to make learning fun for each client and incorporating their preferences and specific interests into each session.

Outside of work I am currently flipping an old farmhouse and working on creating a homestead with my husband. I also enjoy any chance to be creative whether it’s through DIY projects, sewing, decorating, etc.

Annie, RBT

Hi, my name is Annie! I graduated from NC State University in May 2024 with a B.A. in Psychology. I hope my experience working at Triangle ABA will help me gain invaluable knowledge and skills applicable to my ultimate goal of obtaining a Ph.D. in Clinical Health Psychology and working with older adults as a Geropsychologist.

I am also a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200), and I plan to start my 300-hour yoga teacher training in the fall. In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering with older adults, spending time in nature, and doing arts and crafts with my friends.
