Triangle ABA’s pediatric occupational therapy program is delivered in-clinic by licensed Occupational Therapists (OTR/L) trained in sensory integration, motor development, and pediatric feeding. Every child’s plan is individualized, built from a comprehensive evaluation, driven by measurable goals, and adjusted session by session. This is hands-on, play-based therapy designed to help your child engage with the world more successfully, at home, at school, and everywhere in between.
For children overwhelmed by sound, touch, light, or movement, or who crave intense sensory input, our OTs use evidence-based sensory integration techniques to help the nervous system organize and respond more effectively. Treatment often includes vestibular activities (swings, balance boards), proprioceptive input (weighted blankets, deep-pressure tools), and tactile play. We build a personalized sensory diet, a daily plan of sensory activities, that families can carry over at home.
Our OTs target the underlying skills that drive independence: grip strength, finger isolation, bilateral coordination, core stability, and visual-motor integration. We use therapy putty, pegboards, scissors practice, obstacle courses, climbing equipment, and age-appropriate handwriting protocols to build these foundations.
Dressing, toileting, self-feeding, grooming, and mealtime participation are what OTs call “activities of daily living” (ADLs), and they’re often the hardest skills for autistic children. We provide structured feeding therapy for picky eating and food aversion, graded exposure for clothing and hygiene sensitivities, and practical protocols for building independence in self-care routines.

Occupational therapy targets the sensory and motor foundations that underlie behavior, how your child's body and brain process input, move, and handle daily tasks like dressing, eating, and writing. Some insurance plans require a physician's referral or prior authorization for OT services; others allow direct access. You do not need an autism diagnosis to receive occupational therapy, OT helps any child with sensory, motor, feeding, or self-care challenges. Sessions are typically 45–60 minutes, once or twice per week, depending on your child's needs and insurance authorization. Some children benefit from more intensive short-term therapy; others do best with longer-term weekly support. Your OT will recommend a schedule after the evaluation and adjust it as your child progresses.
We primarily serve children ages 2 through 12, with capacity for older children on a case-by-case basis. Pediatric OT is especially impactful between ages 2 and 7, when the nervous system is most adaptive, but older children can absolutely benefit, particularly for handwriting, self-regulation, and ADL independence.
